FDM Group explains why IT graduates are seeking international job opportunities

Whilst questioning a focus group of graduate IT Consultants recently, the UK’s largest IT graduate employer discovered a key reason behind the phenomenal amount of graduate applications it has received this year – its international opportunities.

The chance to travel the world after graduating, when ties have not yet been formed and the thirst for discovery is at its peak, has always been popular with University leavers.

In this current economic climate it is no surprise that many graduates are often taking on pre-university job roles to fund a post-university “gap year,” whilst the economy creeps back onto its feet.

However ambitious graduates who cannot afford to sacrifice their career goals for the sake of a backpacking adventure are seeking to combine climbing the career ladder with exploring the world.

This is where international graduate employers such as FDM Group step in.

FDM not only supports graduates seeking to break into the IT sector by bridging the gap between University and employment, but the company can also offer this sought after combination of international travel and career progression.

With training academies in London, Brighton, Manchester, Frankfurt and New York, FDM trains its graduate employees within one of these locations for 12-16 weeks.

After this initial period, trainees become fully fledged IT Consultants and have the opportunity to work in any of the academy locations as well as places such as Zurich, Luxemburg and Hong Kong, to name a few.

FDM Academy Recruitment and Events manager Madeleine Field said, “The chance to be placed within some of the world’s most famous financial hubs and prime international locations has been a key reason behind the 18,000 applications we have received so far this year.”

FDM recognises that the experience of living and working abroad can provide graduates with the chance to enhance their employability by providing them with valuable life experiences and exposing them to different working habits, cultures and people.

FDM IT Consultant Ben Buxton said, “FDM gave me an opportunity to work in America, one I would never have got without them. For my first job after university this was a big move, but FDM provided me all the support I needed to adjust and settle down in my new job and life. I am happy to say my future career prospects have been greatly improved thanks to the experience I have gained whilst on site overseas.’”

There is no doubt that employers will often favour a candidate who has sought independence and adapted to a world away from home over a graduate with the same amount of experience on their doorstep.

Madeleine Field said, “Someone who has displayed gumption by successfully taking on a job placement in a foreign country will stand out to employers as someone who has what it takes to succeed. This is precisely why the ability to be geographically flexible is a prerequisite for employment with FDM.”

Can International Students work after their course is over?

Hello,

I am an international Student in UK on a Tier 4 General Student Visa.
Currently on my passport it says, that I am allowed to work only 10 hours per week during term time.
However, I would like to know that once my course is over which is about 4 months before the expiration of my Student Visa, can I then work for those 4 months without any troubles?

I mean, say for example, my course is getting over in Dec 2011 and my visa Expiration date is Jun 2012, so can I work for those 6 months as my course will be already over well before my Tier 4 General Student Visa Expires.

Praise for Interlink College

INTERLINK COLLEGE HELPFUL AND TRUSTED COLLEGE
I would like to recommend Interlink College of Technology & Business Studies to any international students for the excellent policies they have and students services. I study Health Social Care a very popular course indeed for students from Asia. Because the staff and the college are so friendly my friend in Philippines even took admission with Interlink College. At first her visa was refused but the college offered every assistance and refund even though my friend did not want to take a refund. After 8 months visa appeal my friend visa granted because the college is highly trusted. Interlink college support their students unlike many closed colleges that scam their students I find Interlink College to be trusted indeed. This is a college that calls their students regularly even when you are sick they would send a student representative to visit you. I was surprise that a college would actually send student welfare to visit you at home. When I told my parents they too could not believe that and I encouraged me to be a good student.

FDM Group supports undergraduates with a passion for marketing

The UK’s largest IT graduate employer, FDM Group, is to recruit a selection of talented students from 12 Universities across the country to fill marketing positions.

FDM Group is renowned for offering a unique combination of technical training and real commercial experience through its two-year graduate programme, which has seen the company scoop awards such as “The Best Technical Graduate Recruiter” of 2010.

The company has kick-started the IT careers of over 3,000 IT graduates and will be recruiting a further 1,000 University leavers this year alone.

In an effort to do so, FDM is currently on the hunt for exceptional second year students, with a flair for marketing, to take on some exciting part-time positions.

Not only will this enable FDM to reach out to students interested in pursuing a career in IT, but it will also allow the company to support students who have their sights set on a career in marketing.

Successful candidates will be responsible for promoting the FDM brand on campus through direct marketing and online activities and must possess the communication skills needed to do so.

Imagination, ambition and enthusiasm are all prerequisites for this role, as brand managers will be expected to drive exposure through new ideas and work on their own initiative.

This opportunity will provide students with valuable marketing experience and help to ensure that their CV’s stand out from the crowd after graduation.

FDM Marketing Manager Nabila Salem said, “At University I worked as a student brand manager and I’m so glad I did. Although I studied marketing at the time the role pushed me to discover what marketing a brand was really about in the real world. It also helped when it came to applying for jobs after University as the role provided me with commercial experience and highlighted my enthusiasm for the industry.”

Brand managers will be rewarded with a competitive salary and benefits and should they succeed in their role, they might even receive an offer from FDM to come on board after graduation!

And as the 11th fastest growing company in Europe, with offices in London, Brighton, Manchester, New York, Zurich, Frankfurt, Hong Kong and Luxemburg, the opportunities FDM can offer are certainly impressive.

To apply for this role please send a CV and covering letter to sbm@fdmgroup.com by 2nd September 2011.

Note to candidates:

Student brand managers are expected to work for 5 hours per week and must apply by 2nd September 2011.

Nationality, Bank Accounts and Tier 4 Confusion

Hello ,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for the work that you all are doing in helping so many people with the nuances of their application process. I think its splendid!

So heres my current hiccup with UKBA. My husband and I are Canadians currently living Taiwan. We have been here for a year and a half. This past June we applied with and have been accepted to study at the University of Strathclyde.

Now heres the dilemma. I was initially hoping to apply as a dependent of my husband, however new amendments to the policy is forbidding from doing that. Since the program is only 10 months long, UKBA thinks its now reasonable to disallow a couple from living and travelling together if the length of time is not equal to or longer than 12 months. So that would make me ineligible there.

Then I reverted back to applying for the Tier 4 as an individual, I do not have a Canadian bank account to my name and so I had decided to do one of two things-
Either apply for the Tier 4 and still use my husband account despite the rules whilst explaining the difficulty of my circumstance in a personal letter to them or …
Transferring part of his funds into a Taiwanese account but not meeting the 28 days requirement and writing a personal letter explaining why havent done so and seeing how it goes.

Or …. doing both respectively ( realizing I might potentially lose lots of money)

Or. …. do you think I should wait for the month, have my husband transfer the money , inform the school that I will be 2 weeks late and satisfy all the requirement excellently. I am feeling very frustrated and overwhelmed . Any advice you have to offer would be greatly appreciated and I hope your days aren’t anything like mine. Wish you the best and Thank you again !
